EURO Auto Festival – October 19-21, 2012

EURO Auto Festival – “Spring has Sprung- Planning has Started”

2012 is here and planning has started for the 17th version of the EURO Auto Festival. The first announcement that needs to be made is the date of the event---October 19-21, 2012 and after much discussion and input from our attendees, the event will held again at the beautiful BMW Zentrum. BMW has been our host for the entire run of EURO and is having another record manufacturing year working 24/7/365 making X-cars. That being the case, plans are being made for off-site parking with shuttle buses to and from the show field, since the usual parking lot may be filled with BMW associate’s vehicles.

The EURO Auto Festival 2011 was very successful, even with a smaller budget and a smaller, less experienced team. Just like a successful football season, we have had a great recruiting class of car folks joining our team, which promises many new ideas and renewed spirit. Our new members have attended the event for many years and are very familiar with the concept and will bring new insights to the weekend of activities. This year we will be featuring some changes to the Friday schedule that will be introduced over the next few months. Our sponsorship program will be greatly expanded and we will resurrect the sponsor night event at the Performance Center. Car clubs are encouraged to make the Euro one of your scheduled meeting dates.

Mercedes Benz will be the featured marque, which will assure us some fabulous examples of SLs, sedans and cabriolets. Last year we were blessed with Mark Richey’s 1954 Mercedes-Benz 300 SL Gull Wing, 10th unit sold. Barrett-Jackson just sold a low mileage model for $2 million – that had been repainted!

I want to alert you all to the great articles about our event in the February issues of Sports & Exotic Car magazine and The Hemmings Motor News. Get a copy and save a part of history. Stay in touch with our web site in the coming months for updates for EURO Auto Festival 2012 at www.euroautofestival.com

Thank you for your support,

Barry Harms, EURO 2011/2012 Chairman

The History Behind The Mercedes-Be Brand And The Three-Pointed Star

If you're a regular reader of eMercedesBenz, you're no doubt familiar with the origins of the Mercedes-Benz brand and the three-pointed star.  But for those of you who are just joining us or those of you who may have missed our past coverage on the subject, Daimler today has published a refresher course detailing briefly the historical milestones that led to the Mercedes-Benz we know and love today.

A few of the topics covered include where the name Mercedes was derived from, what led to the introduction of the three-pointed star and what the star symbolizes.  Also shown are the various incarnations of the logo over the years, each of which played an instrumental role in helping shape one of the most recognizable brands in existence.

To view these and a host of other details regarding the history of the Mercedes-Benz brand, you can find more info in the official press release below.

Enjoy.

NOTE:
Our honorary guest speaker is the famous (at least to car guys-gals too) “My Classic Car” host, Dennis Gage and his Speed TV camera crew. The crew is not as famous as Dennis, but they may make you and your wheels famous when appearing in next season’s special about EURO Auto Festival.
