Guest Speaker - Bill Rothermel
Bill has had a lifelong interest in cars, both small and large. According to family accounts while a toddler in his stroller he would amaze an audience with his ability to identify the make and model of passing automobiles! An automotive historian and avid collector of miniature automobiles and automobilia; Bill’s interests range from the cars of the Brass and Classic Eras; muscle cars, Post-War American cars, European sports cars, and automobiles of all kinds.
Bill is a member of the Boards of Directors of the AACA Museum, Inc., and The Elegance, both in Hershey, Pennsylvania. He is a former member of the Boards of Directors of the Boyertown Museum of Historic Vehicles and the Rolls-Royce Foundation where he was the 2012 recipient of the Robert Shaffner Award in recognition of his contributions to the RRF.
He currently serves as the Master of Ceremonies of the Boca Raton Concours d’Elegance, Boca Raton, Florida; The Elegance, Hershey, Pennsylvania; the Concours at Copshaholm, South Bend, Indiana; the Concours of America, St. Johns, Michigan; the Radnor Concours d’Elegance, Malvern, Pennsylvania; the St. Michaels Concours d’Elegance, St. Michaels, Maryland; and The Hemmings Concours, Lake George, New York. Bill serves as a judge at the Amelia Island Concours d’Elegance, Amelia Island, Florida; Classic Sports Sunday at Mar-a-Lago, Palm Beach, Florida; the Greenwich Concours d’Elegance, Greenwich, Connecticut; and the Greenbrier Concours d’Elegance, White Sulphur Springs, West Virginia.
In recent years, he has officiated as Master of Ceremonies at the York Concours d’Elegance, the Concours d’Elegance of the Eastern United States, the Glenmoor Gathering of Significant Vehicles, The Pinehurst Concours d’Elegance, Cars Under the Stars, the Utah Concours d’Elegance, The Edison Concours, the Pacific Northwest Concours d’Elegance, the Milwaukee Masterpiece, the Monmouth County Concours d’Elegance, the Winter Park Concours, the Concours d’Elegance at Stan Hywet Hall and Art in Motion at Monticello Motor Club. This year, Bill adds emcee duties at the Hilton Head Island Motoring Festival; Eurofest, Greenville, South Carolina; and the inaugural Las Vegas Concours to his busy schedule.
As a freelance writer, Bill’s work has been featured in national, international, club and concours publications such as Automobile Quarterly, Old Cars Weekly, and Sports Car Market, as well as a regular column “On the Showfield” in Hemmings Muscle Machines. He regularly serves as a catalog writer for RM Sotheby’s Auctions and is a contributor to their in-house magazine Shift.
